Challah French Toast

The perfect weekend brunch, French Toast is a classic breakfast recipe to make on a lazy Saturday or Sunday. I like to make a big batch and have it on hand for the rest of the week.

Challah French Toast

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 large loaf of challah bread (homemade challah bread recipe here!)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tso vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup cream
  • 1/2 low fat milk
  • butter for frying
  • maple syrup or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, eggs, cream and milk and whisk until well combined
  2. Cut the challah bread into 1/2 inch thick pieces
  3. Turn a non stick or cast-iron skillet to medium low heat and add a pat of butter.
  4. Dip the challah slices in the egg and milk mixture, one slice at a time. Immediately turn over and coat both sides before placing in the pan to cook
  5. Cook for about 2 minutes, then flip and brown the other side before serving
